The article "Starting to use Broadband-Hamnet" on this site includes the following statement:

You don't need to physically attach to a given mesh node to make changes to it. You may "remote in" to configure it from anywhere on the mesh network

I have searched the forum, but haven't found anything that indicates how this is done.

Can anyone offer any guidance on this topic?

If it has been addressed in another topic, I would be grateful for a link or pointer.

Remoting in means you are physically attached NodeA, and you want to admin NodeB. Pull up NodeA's mesh status, then click on NodeB's link and go to it. You are then remotely AT NodeB. Going to Setup on that screen gets you into NodeB's setup. KTF

Hi Jim,

Thank you for your prompt reply.

If I understand you correctly, all I should need to do to connect to the web server on any adjacent node is click the active link for it in the MESH Status view.  So if I am connected locally to KO2F-501 and KO2F-503 is shown as a link in the mesh status page I should be able to click the link and then be connected to the KO2F-501 status page.

I seem to have a problem if this is the case.  Let me investigate a bit and decide whether to continue this thread or open another focused on the problem that I find.

"Locally" also means on the LAN side not the WAN side (just want to make sure that is clear because the subject of this thread says WAN)

Understood.

My 'locally' reference was to the LAN side of the node used to physically connect to the network.  My WAN reference was to the RF side of the node used to connect to other nodes on the mesh network.

I can connect to the LAN side of my node without difficulty.  This thread was related to using the RF side of this node to connect to the web interface of an adjacent mesh node. 

Now that I know how this is supposed to work, it appears that I have an issue on the LAN side of my local node.  Most likely something I overlooked in the configuration of NAT on my local node.  I agree that this is a separate topic.

I would suggest considering using the "direct mode" configuration instead of the NAT mode. Bob, W9YA

I went to the LAN port on my second node (not configured with NAT)and was able to connect to the web server on the test node without any issues. So I am reasonably certain that the problem I am experiencing when trying the same thing from the first node is related to something I haven't got quite right in my NAT configuration. NAT is a critical piece of the puzzle for me and if it doesn't work this would be a show stopper. But that is a discussion for another topic. Bob, KO2F
